Difference between 560 D and 660 D

Hello, i was wondering what the difference between the 560 Diesel and the 660 Diesel. I would like to use it for pulling and farming so i figured that this would be an ok choice for my needs. I would like to know how low of weight you can get the 560 D narrow front and where to get some parts. Also about how much hp i could get out of it if i gave it a good tune up and some performance parts? Any help would be great.

This is where Farmall & International came in, there was no such tractor as a Farmall 660, they were all Internationals with planetary rear axles, gas engine ran 2400 rpm, C263, LPG optional, Diesel D282 ran 2400 also, the I560 and F560 ran 1800 rpm, another difference was steering axle type, Farmall was Row-Crop style, Farmall also had slide width rear axles, adjustable width front axles, Hi-Clear optional, I560-660 had non adjustable rear axles, I560 did not have planetary rears. The 560 660 656 706 all were 282Cid so the crank and pistons should be the same. In fact the 263 cid gas could use the same crank different bore you should get 100 HP with turbo and truning down the leaf spring on the pump with out taking the pump off, but the engine has to be in top condition. Don't know if 660 injectors are different or not. I never tried any other ideas or parts. If I am correct on this the later 282's had heaver cranks than the first ones.

dmp: Power train wise the two tractors only have a couple of basic differences; PTO 540 is 1800rpm on 560 and somewhere in the 2200-2300 rpm on 660. You can achive the same hp from a 560 as the 660 through higher rpm, pump changes and injectors.

I operated a 560 in the 90-100 hp range from new for about 18 years and 11,000 hours. Don't ask me how to do it, as an IH technician made all the changes for me.

the 660 was a heavy wheatland type tractor
for general farming the 560 would be a better choice. parts are easy to get. Case IH still has most and there are lots of aftermarket venders as well as used parts in salvage yards.

There were standard type versions of the 560 (I-560) as well, very similar in appearence to the 660.

I know nothing about the improvements in HP etc, but the 560 is a row crop tractor, with adjustable wheels, etc, the 660 is a standard, or wheatland tractor with fixed axles.

Can you tell me some good valve springs to put in the 560 d or just use 660, and a good place to turn the injection pump up for reasonable price. I would like to get about 85 hp or so.

As for turning the pump up get out your screwdriver and do it but you might want to put it on a dyno to see what hp you already have as most all of them have been turned on over the years. I had a 560d that the pump was rebuilt on and the shop that done it turned it to 85 hp but the tractor really didn't weigh enough without adding weight to to handle it well.

In terms of the engine, the 560, 660, and even the 706 had the same basic components. They use the same block and same bore. I believe the stroke is a bit different, but most of the parts are interchangeable. If you put a 706 crank and rods in, then you would have an easy "stroke" job done. That will bump you up a bit. After that look at valve spings, and turn up the pump.

Same engine in 560, 660, 706 same bore and stroke in Deisels any way. 460 same block same bore different stroke.
