So did you get the MD, or are you scared of it. If it starts on gas and switches over to diesel easily and sounds like its running good you should be alright. But you never said how much it was going to cost.

Did not get it yet. It is not running but the man says it was running when parked. He has the MD a deere H I think. He wants $1500 for the MD. He also has farmall that looks about like the MD but way bigger. The big one runs. He is real proud of the big one and did not mention selling it.

$1500 is to much for a nonrunning MD. There must have been a reason it was parked. You can sink upwards of $3500.00 in the motor.

M or MD will not fit between the fenders of a normal car trailer unless you have at least one wheel dished out. The typical 7000# GVW car trailer is too light, the M should be towed with at least a 3/4 ton pickup unless you have one of the newer 1/2 ones which may be rated higher. I've had no experience with those, it is far too heavy for my 1/2 ton GMC.

MD's are great tractors if you know how they are put together. But if you are not mechanly inclined you better know someone who is. The gas start diesels are the most expensive to get parts for. And a lot of parts are difficult to find.

The MD is an interesting tractor but I think I'm glad I never used mine in the field. It is a complex engine and the head cracks easily so look for signs. When I got mine the injector pump oil hadn't been changed for some time and was more diesel fuel than oil. There have been many good posts on the MD here so check out the archives. Drove mine home from a farm sale so no experience hauling.

We have a farmall md and it weighs 6000 with 2 sets of weights on the back so it isnt really that heavy. The only thing to watch out for is the price and time it takes to buy parts for the motor if it doesnt run well. A trailer rated for the weight and a pickup will take it to whereever you want.
