Replacing the Upper Seal in the Tranny.

Go into your 1/2" drive wrench set and find a socket that fits easily inside the tranny half coupling (i.e. it's OD is a bit smaller than the tranny shaft coupling bore ID). Place the socket in the coupling so it is bearing on the tranny shaft, then take the other half of the coupling and slide toward it's mate until it contacts the socket . The socket will now be trapped between the coupling halves. If necessary stack some washers, a big nut or something on the coupling so the two coupling flanges are about 3/4" or so apart. Finally take two suitable bolts & nuts (5/16"?? 3/8"?? - I'm uncertain of the size) and bolt the two coupling halves together. Tighten the bolts alternately and evenly - no more than 1/2 turn at a time each. As the bolts tighten the coupling halves will squeeze together. The socket trapped between them will cause the rear coupling half to be pulled off the tranny shaft.

I used this method several times - it'll pull the most stubborn coupling off the tranny shaft in just a few minutes.
