The seal on my hydraulic pump continues to leak, even after installing a new one. Has anyone tried using "Transmission Stop Leak" to stop such a leak? My understanding is that this stuff works by causing seals to expand. Would it harm the engine if it leaked down into the crankcase? As always..... ...Thanks in advance..... ..RP

Don't think I would do that. Is your seal installed with the lip facing the oil flow? If the shaft has a groove in it, take it to a machine shop and have the shaft rebuilt. Tell them to use a procedure that does not get the shaft too hot so that it loses it's temper. If it breaks, you will ruin the cam gear, not to mention valves, pistons etc. You CAN use a speedy sleeve, problem is, it will have to be installed after the shaft goes through the gears, meaning if you ever have to work on the pump again, the sleeve will not allow you to take it apart. I wasted a $25 speedy sleeve when I found out I could not assemble the pump on my Super H. Don't think your pump is "blowing seals", it is just a simple gear pump.

The seal on my 240U was installed wrong cause
compression spring that holds ID of seal to shaft
was off. My pump is a Cessna. I ended up grinding
a chanfer on the edge of step that seal rides on
so spring wouldn't pop off. And of course seal is
pressed into ID of housing. I wet stoned where
seal rides on shaft also but if yours has a worn
groove where seal rides it will never seal. My
1hr quick fix turned into a 4hr rebuild of pump
Worked so good that had to change suction hose
cause pump vacumn collapsed it and had to lower relief valve setting.
Hope this helps BC

Rp, when your pump won't hold seals on either end of it the pump is shot. When your pump wears out is builds to much enternal pressure and pushes the seals out. This information I got from a professonal hydraulic shop. My 300 Utility started pushing the seals out and my only alternative was to replace the pump.
