my parts book has the following
Double Disc Brake package consisting of both left and right disc. PN# 358553R91
Left only. 358251R91
Right only. 358252R91
Shows to fit an M from serial 501 thru 294225
Sounds like you need to find an older dealership that was a true IH dealer. They usually have some guys that know about the old iorn. Most of the CIH dealers that have sprung up since the 1985 buyout are not knowledgeable on some of this old iron. IMO

It is possible you have Lambert disc brakes on your M. My '48 M has them ( Were on it when I bought it). You're correct the splines are different than IH discs. Lamberts were an after market add on made available to dealers. I was able to "machine" the splines on the new discs I got from my dealer using a dremel tool and they worked great. I think there are three bolts through the outer housing on my Lamberts. IH disc brakes had either 4 or 5 bolts.

We've got a '42 H w/disc brakes. We've never had them apart, they work too well to mess with them-WAY BETTER than the IH discs on our Super C or the ones on BIL's SM. My parts book lists disc brakes as an option on H's-its dated 1947, so maybe there was an option for M's as well. I'll look at noon & see if I can find a part # for the disc for the H-maybe it'll help. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)
