Helping my Pa in law get his farmall C ready to mow field behind his house. This tractor hasn't run in about three years. Got it cranked and it runs really smooth, has a neat sound when running. He's got problems with his hydraulics. He has mid point attachments for cultivators and a two point hitch on back with a large external cylinder(is this original or aftermarket?) the hoses for the controls go through a little square box mounted beside the gear shifter. Hydraulic fluid pours from this box when lifting. Everything holds tight once lifted. What is this square box and where can I get another one or can this one be repaired? There's so much trash and gook around it I can't really tell where tho oil is coming from.

This block is a load check valve. It prevents the cylinder from drifting and extending under a load. It is a crucial saftey item. However, you can plumb around it with just some pipe couplings until you fix the leak on the block or find a new block. Any good hydraulic supply house can get you one. It probably won't look like the origional, but it will work. Just ask for a load check valve.

While we are discussing this lets go to the cylinder. There is a colar that fits on the piston rod that looks like it is to extend over a relief valve. This looks like it is supposed to press the valve down as the piston goes down. Mine is broken. Can you tell me where I can get a replacement or a substitute?

Sounds like you might have a check valve setup. It prevents oil from leaving the rod end of cylinder until an equal or greater amount enters the base end. That keeps cylinder from cavitating when extending with a load on. Usually they are marked V-1 V-2 and C-1 C-2 on the ports. V= Valve C= Cylinder. You may have bad o-rings on the fittings. Comment based on what you described. Good Luck

Nope, not coming from under the tool box. Coming from a little square box that the hoses from the control lever go into. Hoses come from the control lever, through this little square box and go on to the cylinder. The hoses screw into this thing.

My 200 was doing the same thing!! I remedied it by having new hoses made that reached from the extra valve all the way to the cylinder. It appears to me that the "block" is a relief valve of some sort. I think that mine rusted thru after being covered with crap for a long tyme , much like a bush hog does if ya don't clean the grass clippings from it's deck. I might be wrong , but it might not be needed ? Mine is working fine now . I left the block there for the tyme being. Mark
