I have a B-414 and I want to build a woodspliter for it. I need to know if it is a "closed" or "open" center system and how many gpm the pump puts out. Also I would appreciate a short explaination of the difference between "open" and "closed" center hyd systems. Thanks in advance. Walter

Hi, my Dad had a B414D, I believe hydraulics were 6 gallons/minute (probably British gallons which are 5/4 US gallon) therefore about 7 gallons US/minute. There was a flow control valve in front of the seat that would reduce the flow to 3 gallons/minute. We never used a wood splitter on the B414D but had a 434D which was a never version of the B414D. The 434D had a front end loader on it with hydraulic quick couplers. We would disconnect the bucket hydraulic hoses, attach the wood splitter hydraulic hoses to the bucket outlets, tie the bucket hydraulic control level open in one direction and then use the hydraulic control valve on the wood splitter. Our wood splitter was home made a the hydraulic cylinder was I believe a 4 x 30 inch cynder from a dozer.
This would split the largest blocks of maple and elm that two people could lift.
