I purchased a Super C from a fellow last weekend. He wanted the Grill and Radiator so I got everything else. Most of it is in good shape. However...I pulled the head, fully knowing it had been froze up for a long time. The head does not look too bad. The pistons are all froze up real good..I mean bad. I dropped the oil pan and looked up in there. The crank and everything below looks new, well 1952 new.

Are these engines rebuildable like the H's. I know it has wet sleeves while the H's have dry sleeves. Should I mess around with the motor or offer the extra parts to all of you out there at a great price?

I would have to assume Super C engines are a little harder to find than regular A-B-C engines. Should I make the effort and see what happens?

I yanked out the push rods....ewwwww ww! Pretty nasty looking. I suppose the camshaft looks like warmed up refried beans.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Scott

How long has it been set up? I took an A that was tighter than a drum and soaked it for 3 months and then hammered(hard) the pistons down until it was free. I had to clamp the sleeves down so they would not push. After I got it free I put it back together and she ran. She smoked like crazy the first year and I had to change the oil often but I put it to work and now it runs like a top. If you have the time it was a lot of fun.

Won't be profitable, but you can find C123 parts anywhere. Value bilt has a piston and sleeve set for $310, a rebuilt block for $1300. Tractor will run like new, but cost more than new. Most of the letter series engines have a lot of sludge in them, doesn't necessarily mean the cam is bad.

It will cost you $300.00 + just to replace the parts that he kept. This plus what you have said would FOR SURE make it a parts tractor for me. You can probably part out (sell the rest of the parts) for enough to buy a good "C" in running condition. It is the old story - "THE SUM OF THE PARTS IS GREATER THAN THE SUM OF THE WHOLE".

The tractor is located in Park Rapids, MN...One hour South of Bemidji.

I am going to have the head and block checked....if bad is the word---selling Super C parts is my new profession for the short term.

Hmmmmm mmmm....Do you like working on things?
Can you do the work yourself?

If you have time, money and desire..... .go for it !

I think you can get about anything you need for the engine...check the link at the top left of this page....and there are lots of salvage yards.

G'day
