Hi, could anyone tell me how the super w6 would be as a general farm tractor? (hp, quality, etc)
I had an opportunity to buy one and I was wondering, would the increase in hp affect the engine,(bearings) or the transmission ? Or is is a totally different engine altogether?
Thanks, Paul

The W-6 tractor was a 'pulling' tractor, but it was very capable of doing(Mowing, Plowing, Disking, Culivating, Front End Loader, Towing .), it however was not a "row-crop" type tractor and could not do market garden work, its wheels were not adjustable for this type of work. An option was the 'Torque Amplifier' which aided in pull power. They did however have rear bearing problems, and the second live PTO clutch had to be watched for adjustment. The W-6 was usually over-worked in its era as was his brother the WD-6. To-day this tractor would fit in on 160 acres or less.

IHC increased the HP slightly on all of the Super models through out the entire line of FARMAL tractors without causing any problems with the rest of the tractor. When they came out with the 560 they had increased the HP to a point that they overpowered the rear end. None of the Letter Series tractors however had any problems with the larger HP engine.

The W-6 is a great PLOW tractor which is what the Wheatland tractors were designed for. While it is the equivalent of the FARMAL H the W-6 is more of a single purpose tractor while the H is suited for many different jobs. (Mowing, Plowing, Disking, Culivating, Front End Loader, Towing etc.) The W-6 is basiclly just a towing tractor.

I would NOT consider the W-6 for general purpose work on the farm. It is however a great tractor when used for the task that it was designed for.

GOOD TRACTORING

The Super W-6 is the counterpart to the Super M--same engine and transmission.
