Forgive me if this post is duplicated.
I'm not sure where my first attempt went.
Plus where did the crawler forum go?

I/we have have been having trouble with a TD-18A or
actually UD-18A Ready Power 57 KVA gen set that we
aquired recently.
It had numerious problems that we have worked through
including water leaks into several cyclinders and into the sump.
THe previous (bush) mechanic didn't tourque down the head properly we suspect.
We fitted a new head gasket replacing the existing non-orignal solid copper head gasket
thinking that would fix the problem as we could see tracking accross the old head gasket.
We found though that we still had leaks, more in fact.
Pulling the head (again) has showed leaks on all cyclinders.
We have since found the liners are leaking and have pulled them out and will refit
with new seals etc.
But the concern we have is that it should not have leaked past the head gasket rings?
With the new head gasket has things got out of tolerance?
Everthing measures in tolerance but I'm not convinced the gasket rings (steel) are sealing.

Has any one had simular problems and can offer anything to help?

I have a set of new (steel) rings I can measure the thickness for you. Original rings were all copper & could be heated to anneal so they conform to the new head gasket. Not sure about the steel ones as I have not installed them yet. New rings are probably only available from Komtsu now & at $80+ they are expensive. FP Smith may have 2 left as I got four of their last 6. I may be able to find more info in my manuals if you want. Let me know.

The steel gasket rings we have are 3.2 mm [0.125"] thick. This protudes above the headgasket within tolerance according to our manual (I forget by how much). They changed to steel from copper at some satge to better survive the combustion gases that they are exposed to on the inner edge.
Can we anneal the steel ones? I don't know?
Are they an alloy?

MY manual says all gaskets should be new (to match thickness). Recessed side of the ring should be up. Apperently, they do not anneal the steel rings.
