thanks for the information, I now understand how the power is tranfered, thanks to your information. Will take the old girl to local shop.We are cosidering having the hydro unit rebuilt while split, about 8000 hrs and alot of hard pulling, we did change fluids and filters annually until later years when fewer hours were accumulated. HAS BEEN a good reliable tractor, we bought it new in 73. like one of the family, thanks again,W 30

Sounds like could be the flex plate on the flywheel that drives everything your braker are most likly working as manual the IH brakes like what the 1066 has should be as good without power as with it they are in good shap. The flex plate replaces the clutch of a gear drive and drives the whole tractor. You should have manual steering but would be hard to steer.

you will not have much for brakes and more often than not the steering will not work,it does sound like the rivets in the drive hub let go somewhat but the tractor should still drive and the 3 pt hitch should still work as they run off of a different pump.i would probably check the hyd. filter to see if you have anything in there, metal or anything else.

Redman! I believe the 1066 same as 656 only one shaft from engine to the Hydro housing then a gear to drive the other pump and PTO so the flex plate will stop everything. As for brakes if everything is up to par should have just as good brakes as power been there done that many times should be able to steer if everything is up to par.

Time to split it and install a flex plate. You wont have brakes for long.
