Take off the side cover of the pump and confirm that the governor linkage is moving as you move the throttle lever on the side of the pump. Often the governor linkage sticks -- a little WD-40 and gentle working back and forth will free it up, if that's what it is. Brian

Dave, It depends on how much money you want to spend and what you expect in the end from your MD. If you have no experence with injectors and injector pumps I wouldn't advise working on it yourself. You can take out the injectors and get them tested and also the injector pump. If you are in Soutwest Minnesota, Central Fuel Injector Service is in Esterville, IA and where I had mine rebuilt at DK Diesel in Watertown, SD. Roger

You did not say if you advanced the diesel speed control lever. Unless you advance that to give it some throttle, it is in shut off mode and you will get nothing to the injectors.

The pump is very comlicated, lots of valves, ports, separate pumps, etc... I would rule it out yet. Possibly there is something wrong with the distributor block?

How did this problem occur, was it running before this or has it been sitting awhile?

I am pretty sure that the plunger is stuck. If you run it on gas and open bleeder on a injector then open diesel up it should have diesel coming through. Every one I have worked on that had been sitting a while had the plunger stuck. You have to take the pump off to get it unstuck. What you need is the I&T shop manual IH-8. It's not that complicated if you read the manual. These pumps are easy to work on because they are pretty simple. I go to my local hardware store to replace the seals and o'rings.

Primary is where fuel go in from fuel filters, secondary is inside called plunger. When you run on gas and unhook throttle at pump, pull all the way back and see if engine smokes, if not could injectors are froze, which you can clean. Could be you dont have enough pressure to open them. I also had one that wouldn,t run because the starting valves wouldn,t close and therefore no compression. You can take valve cover off and make sure the rod that pushes starting valves down is releasing all the way. Other than this you might have to pull the head. I am giving you advise on my dealings with gas start/diesels I do not callmyself an expert but I can usually figure out how to get them to run.

Farmaller:Thank you for taking time to help me out I did try a couple things you wrote to me. Like I Took off the valve cover to make sure that the starting valves were not stuck (and they were not) and I asked another guy (chuck's repair) if 61 psi was enough and he said yes that it was plenty of pressure. But one thing I didn't try was cleaning them I did on the other hand take one out completely and hook it on to it's fuel advanced the throtle and started it on gas and let it warm up and try to convert it over and at no point do put fuel out (except a few LITTLE drops. I do wounder if all the injectors are dirty and do you know how to clean them If so your help is very much apprecatied. Thanks Super Dave

Take them out and soak them in a good cleaning solution for a couple of hours. then take them apart to clean each piece just make sure you do one at a time and remimber how they go back together. I have done this a couple of times and never had any problems.
