I recently found an original tool box for an H or M, but I can not figure where it goes. Are there any special mounting brackets that I will need?

The notch in the tool box is offset to one side to give clearance for the throttle linkage on the diesel models. I have one on my SMTAD, I took it off off my MD. What ever you do do not drill unneccesary hole in it or weld on it. The last one I seen on ebay was missing some rivets on the hinges and still went for over $150.

John - From what I am reading sounds like you have the tool box that mounts to the light bar and the notch is for the steering column post - have one on my 46 - box is only 3-4 inches deep - hinged so lid will open away from driver - may have IH decal on lid. Good for gloves, screwdrive, hitch pin and place to hide cigerettes. Jim

Never knew that a factory tool bax was ever made, Had a 41 H bought in 49 and traded off in 84, never had a tool box except what was built in the seat suport and that was worthless, 2" wide and open top with a round bottom, maby 6" deep on deep side

Is it the deep rectangular box that mounts on the rear of the platfrom, or is it the shallower rectangular box, that is notched for the steering support, that mounts to the light bar? Both will require their own unique mounting brackets.

It is the type with the notch in the middle. It actually looks like the notch is off-center. Is this where the steering post goes through, or is this for the PTO lever? If it mounts on the light bar, why is the notch offset and not centered?

Off hand I don't remember the notch being off center for the light bar mounted tool box. You should be able to hold the tool box up to your light bar and see if it fits. If it is a light bar mount it requires 4 mounting brackets. That attach to the front (side with the notch) of the tool box and then slide over the light bar and tighten down. These brackets would be easy to fabricate.

Could you possibly email me some photos of one mounted and of the brackets? My tractor and tool box are about 2.5 hours away from me, so I can not just go out and take a quick look. Thanks.

The tractor is at my dad's. I will be out there this weekend. I will try to get some pictures of the toolbox mounted and email them to you on Monday.

The tool box mounts right above the pto on the back side of the rear end. There will be a couple of brackets to mount it. All of the ones that I have seen have been centered right below the seat.

What do the brackets look like? Which bolts do they attach to? I guess I can make new brackets if I can get an idea of what they should be like.

We drilled holes in the PTO cover to hold the tool box.
