i have a 1940 Farmall A that i have the A-192 mounted plow and a set of mounted cultivators for. i would like to end up putting a disc on this tractor. it was designed for use with a pull type disc however this would be unacceptable for my circumstances. does anyone have any suggestions for mounting a disc to the tractor? this tractor also has manual lift mechanisms. no exhaust lift or hydraulics. i am sure i can find a way to mount a disc to the tractor but am at a loss as to how i would lift this device. any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks
greg

Greg: Back a few years ago I heiped a guy gear up a cultivator built with modern S tines that mounted to tractor in same manner as the plow. He used a hydraulic pump belt driven from belt pulley, complete with resovoir, valves etc. Not quite as convenient as live hydraulics, but as my friend said still better than hand lift. He said nearing 60 that hand lift wouldn't be very live either. He operated his plow, snow blade and the cultivator with this hydraulic unit.

There is a guy who posts on here regularly BIG JOHN, he is aware of a hydraulic unit you can buy that will fit right under seat and drive from pulley. The unit is self contained and complete and at a price that is favourable.

I built a single point fast hitch using the Super A plow lift, a hitch socket from a Farmall 560 and used the Super A drawbar for the wish bone. You can probably build a 3 point hitch more economically.

Greg, I think you will very hard pressed to come up with a way to lift a disk harrow or any implement that large that is trailered behind the tractor. I have a snowplow mounted on my 42 A during the winter months, that I rigged up with a strongarm lift and a cable and pulley system to raise and lower the plow. I also have a Super A that I am rebuilding, that has the touch control hydraulics. The Super A also has a rear rockshaft between the rear fenders that could be used to raise a nd lower various implements. If you are intent on using that disk behind the A I would think about mounting some wheels that could be lowered on the disk and then you could get it down the road that way. Just a thought!

sorry. didnt make everthing clear. i do not have a pull type disc anyway. my thought has been to possibly use a disc harrow from maybe a cub and modify as necessary to lift from the plow lift mechanism.

Greg, A lot of the guys that have used these tractors forever swear by the fasthitch arragement for the ease of hooking and unhooking various implements. The problem of lifting the implement still exists with no hydraulic power. Through the use of a strongarm lift possibly a lower pivot pin and a cable arragement you could accomplish your goal. Good Luck!
