I have a "706" with the D282 cid engine in it and would like to put the D310 out of my "715" combine, that I will probably never use again, in it. I haven't been able to find out what I would need for this conversion. Would I come out better if I found a dead "706" or "756" with the 310 in it and use it for parts? Has anyone got a solution? I live in Miss. and "706" and "756" tractors are scarce.

The combine to tractor swap can be done, but from what I've been told, you'll be much better off finding a 706 with a 310 and a bad rear end. I have heard that the 715's 310 has a different crankshaft that does not allow for the 706 flywheel to bolt up. You have to have a flywheel made. There's a couple of other things on the 715 that won't work. I think the oil pan doesn't clear the tractor front end, and the oil filter doesn't clear the frame rail. Then there's the differences between a 706 with the 282 and a 706 with the 310. The frame rails and hood are different. If you bought a 756 parts tractor, you wouldn't get the correct sheetmetal, but you'd get about everything else that you need.

Thank you for your response. I sure had no idea the transition would be this complicated. I think I'll abandon this project.

Don't know it all but maybe give some idea. You would need side rails off late 706 that had the D310 or off 756 with D310, the plate that bolts to the back of the block for rear engine mount, I would think front timing cover along with front plate that bolted to the front of the block. I would think trany input shaft be the same has well as PTO drive shaft but part number will tell you that. Can remember if radiator pluming is the same. Some say the D310 starts hard in winter. I never found that to be the case unless they we overhauled getting the valves to seat hard job.with overhaul. But tough engine. Hope this helps some.

Aces,
Thanks for your quick reply. The flywheel and clutch will probably need to swap. Then a lot of minor parts such as throttle linkage, fuel lines, maybe temp gauge, air intake, and maybe exhaust plumbing. It may be more than I bargained for so should stick with the 282.

Kelly, I can't answer your questions, but I'm sure someone on this board can.

Where you at in Mississippi?
