I posted this about two weeks ago but I cannot find the post.

Someone said to take the oil pan off. I just removed it this morning now what do I look for? If it is a cracked head or head gasket would water seep in to the oil pan without the tractor running? I drained the oil out last night and this morning I had antifreeze in the pan?? I hope it is not a cracked block!!

appreciate your comments

If I were you, I would take the head off. A damaged head gasket will indicate that the leak is there. If not, than it has a crack someplace that will need to be repaired to fix the problem which will require tear down anyways. A block or head shop should be able to find the crack and determine whether it can be fixed.

If it were my tractor I would drop the pan and pressurize to about 5 lbs. With a good trouble light, you should be able to get a good idea or the general area it is coming from. Pay close attention to the camshaft area and to the bottom of the sleeves where they meet the block. If you see antifreeze around the camshaft area, there is a good chance it is coming down the pushrod cavity, signaling that the problem is likely in head or headgasket area. This will also help you know the general area to pay close attention to when you pull the head. If dripping along a sleeve, then you likely have a cracked block in the bore. Hope this helps, Rick

I don't have anyway to pressurize the tractor. If I leave the pan off will I see where it is coming from in time? To me these seemed to be a lot of antifreeze in the oil pan but I don see any green droplets hanging from the bottom of the engine??

I appreciate your advice.

You should be able to see where it is coming from based upon the amout you are getting in the pan. Perhaps you might put newspaper or cardboard down and see where the drops fall. I guess that would be my next step. Good Luck

Take the head off if it is leaking that bad you should be able to see it very easy if it is a head gasket maybe not so easy if cracked head. If you have the pan off after a while you should see area it is leaking from.
