I hate the heat!!! Its 100 deg today and I cant stand it. I sure am glad it does not get that hot here often. You guys in the south I dont know how you do it.
I can deal with -40 below better than this.

Mark Twain said it best that the coldest winter he ever experenced was a summer in San Fransico. It depends on what you are used to I think. I live in the south with high humidity but its the mesquotes that get me more than the heat.

Then again my wife wont come with in 25' of me when I have been working out side when its hot ether. wonder why?
You know us Finlanders like it cold.

I spent 30 years in Minnesota. Now you know why I left. That humidity will kill you, even at 85 degrees... It gets hot here in NOrth Idaho. Stays in the Mid 90's most of the summer, but we here don't have to deal with gnats, mosquitoes, deer flys, or the awful humidity... get out of there while you still have a change

Problem with MN (other than 40 below) is that when you have 100 degrees you also have at least 80% humidity. It is typically 100 plus here in western Kansas, but the humidity is "usually" only 15-20%. I would die in MN.

You know I spent 2 winters in Kansas at Ft Riley.
In my opinion the winters are worse there than they are in MN. Not colder but when it gets cold here its a crunchy cold and its a dry cold.
In kansas, MO, Ind, Ill its a wet icy mess.
It goes from 60 deg on monday that turns every thing to mud. Then to 0 deg on friday. Freezing all your tires in the mud. Sat its 35 to 15 with ice rain and the hawk starts to blow across that flat openness as far as you can see. Brrrrr
I think I like it where its just cold.

I know all about that "dry heat". I was in Arizona and it got up to 106F one day, and I swear it felt like it was only 104F.

Us dry people don't usually use the heat index, because of the low humidity, but yes, sometimes 106 "feels like" 104, but 106 is cool for Arizona.

nah. Our blood is thicker to retain heat in the winter. I remeber when I was in Korea I was pulling duty with a guy from Jamaca. It was about 25 deg out side. I was just wearing a long sleeve shirt and my soft cap and Feeling great.
This poor sot had on every piece of cold weather gear the Army puts out and borrowed extras.
Parka, micky mouse boots the whole bit. They had a m2 burner running in one of the mess trailers and he had is butt planted right next to it and would not move. The guy looked like a big OD green bean bag.
All us guys from the Nort country had a great chuckle about him all winter long.

Dont get me wrong -50 sucks too but my comfort zone is between 50 and 70.

when it is too cold outside I stay in the house except for chores. Now when it is too hot I knock off early and sit by the AC

Hey Kelly C,
I live in north central texas and been out working in the heat we have had all summer long. Its pretty much what you get used too.
I couldn't handle the cold and the snow yall get up north. I'll take a couple months of hot weather any day rather than have to deal with the snow.

Winter is not all that bad. I will admit there is a good reason they bury the water sevices to your house 10' deep and have to use a jack hammer to dig em up in the winter when they crack.

I know what you are talking about. I was raised in Texas then spent 30 years in Alaska. Then moved back to Texas when I retired.Big mistake it was 114 here the other day. I'm like you I can put on enough clothes to get warm but can't pull enough off to get cool. I'm about ready to become a snowbird. LOL Bill

Don't want to add vinegar to you folk's wounds, but it was a balmy beautiful 78F here in Mid Michigan today. Maybe we get the 100F heat later in the week. Hope not, but still great to be up here north of the palm trees, sage brush, cacti, Mason-Dixon line, heck, even north of Detroit.

Paul, tell them the truth. It's stinking hot here and also smells of car factories and steel mills. Car traffic is horrendous and everybody is irritable and nasty. In the Winter it is gray, gray, and more gray and colder than a well diggers A$$. None of you guys want to move to Michigan. So, please stay away.

Vern, You forgot to mention the Dow Chemical experimental fish here in Midland that glow in the dark. As to the traffic, I have I-75 northbound all to my self on Sunday evening.

Shoot Rustyfarmall, you know how the weather is in Iowa--if you don't like it, just wait five minutes, it's gonna change. Personally, I wish it would change to raining sometime soon! I myself like the hot weather, and yes I could live without the humidity,(it's gotta be 90% at 6:10AM right now!) but I still find it better than that damn North wind cutting into your face when you go out to cut ice for the cows at 4AM!. I'll take the heat over the cold weather anyday! Rustyfarmall, BTW where are you located? I'm just about 12 miles West of I-35 and 30 miles North of the MO border.

Hey Travis, up here in Northern Iowa we call you guys down by the border 'lap-landers' cause some of that Missouri culture 'laps' over into southern IA. No offense to you MO guys.
If you like change, Iowa's the place to be. Between the cold winter and hot summers we get some pretty decent weather. About 2 or 3 days of it any way and even then the winds blowing 30mph.
But I wouldn't live anywhere else.

A little further west, and not near as far north.

Taylor county? THE Taylor county? Been deer hunting down there a couple times. Got some friends near Vilisca. Beautiful country down there.
