Good looking trailer there Kelly. I have a little story to tell about a "bought" trailer. A couple years ago I decided to purchase a 16 ft bumper pull trailer (7,000 lb rated with self storing ramps) to haul my C and 8N ford on, and whatever else I might need to haul. The first time I tried to load the trailer I pulled my C on the ramps I noticed the fenders "pull" away from the side rails. My attention was drawn away from the fenders by the fact my tires were set too wide to load anyway so I backed off the ramps and loaded the 8N and brush hog as I had some mowing to do at my other place. Again I noticed the fenders pull away from the side rails. To make a long story short I basically bent the side rails in a rainbow due to the weight of the tractor on the very rear of the trailer when loading. To make a long story short I took the trailer to the manufacturer and they replaced it with a much heavier built one, but told me I should support the rear when loading with ramps (I probably should). My argument was that it included loading ramps and no support for the rear nor did anyone mention to only use the ramps when supported and my load did not get close to the 7,000 lbs the trailer was rated for. The original trailer was made from 3X5X1/4 angle on the sides. The one they replaced it with is made with 4X6X3/8 angle and welded much better. I have loaded it without support and it does not give, but I probably would not load an M on it. Bottom line is some manufactured trailers are very weak, but I did get a decent built trailer in the end for approximately $1100.

I agree with CNKS. I loaded my C on my 16' bumper hitch trailer for a couple of years without bracing the rear of the trailer. Made the back end of my Dodge Dakota just about come off the ground. This year I bought a couple of jack stands from TSC. Put one under each corner. Makes a big difference. Just need to allow for a little extra clearance for the settling of the springs due to the weight of the tractor. It only took once to leann this trick.

You just got a bad trailer. I don't own one, but rent occasionally. When I block the rear, I do it more for stability than anything else. I have also rented a few tractors, and the rental place just uses the ramps and drives on -- with equipment much heavier than a C. The manufactuer was making excuses for his underbuilt trailer.

Kelly,Looks like you done a real good job and one to be proud of when you go to the shows.Others may buy those store bought trailers but they can't say "I done it myself". I am modifying my trailer just about every winter between shows but just about went as far as I can go with a bumper pull trailer.Guess I'll have to start on a goose neck one of these days.Again good job.

If you're taking orders, I'll take a 20ft gooseneck with a 5ft beavertail. Also, you can make triple fold-up ramps while you're at it. HA. Like that'll ever happen, huh?
Seriously, the trailer looks great. Wish I could do something line that but my welding looks like somebody just took some hot metal and threw it at the joints. Larry

Well I would really like to have a 20'X8' deck over. But This was the only trailer I was going to get. My wife would never let me buy one. So I did like Johnny Cash did with his car.
Made it one part at a time. The only difference is I paid for my parts.
My wife thinks I got alot of great deals at the junk yard. She never thought it was funny that they just happened to have brand new steel cut to lenth just sitting there for me to find.
Oh well got to do what you got to do to get your stuff.

Please tell me you have or plan electric brakes on at least one axle. They are a lifesaver.

Eric
