Hey guys. I am replacing the clutch on my H. I have every thing out except the pilot bearing.
I broke the handy dandy pilot bearing puller that I purchased from Harbor frieght. ( imagine that)
I may go rent a puller to get it out, but wanted to see how you guys get them out first.

Use a hacksaw blade and saw it thru the long way, it'll come right out

If it is a bronze bushing, such as a Chevrolet, I have used a thread tap to remove them easily. Just select the tap, screw it into the bushing, and as it bottoms out, it will pull the bushing very easily.

A good trick I've used is to find a bolt, pin, or some kind of shaft that just fits into the bushing/bearing. Fill the cavity behind the bearing FULL of grease. Insert the bolt and hit with a hammer. The bolt will usually bottom out before the bushing comes completely out so you have to add more grease.

I've done this probably 50 times and it's only failed me maybe 5 times!!

I've always had the flywheel off to be cut, so just pounded it out.

Hi, never worked on a H but have done SC and many newer models. Is it a true bearing or just a bronze bushing like the SC ?
To pull a regular bearing I would remove one of the claws from a regular bearing puller and insert it into the shaft hole, then clamp a visegrip on the other end and hit the visegrip with a hammer. Rotate the claw in the shaft hole to keep the bearing coming out straight.
For the bronze bushing on the SC, used a broken hack saw blade to make 3 cuts in the bushing and then used a small chisel or screw driver to wedge between the flywheel and bushing. The bushing should break at the hack saw cuts and colaspe inward.

Good luck.
Jb

Yep thats most likely what will happen. I wonder if I can get it out with a chissle?
Wouldn't you know it as soon as I get it apart I get a call from a guy wanting me to do 20 acres of hay for him. I better get busy and get that bearing out.
