Governor Shaft Fix?

I’m kinda wondering about something and thought maybe someone might want to comment.
In tearing down my C engine for rebuilding the other day, I notice that the shaft in the governor for the speed change lever would wobble.
I didn’t get a chance to disassemble it to see what can be done to fix it and I won’t get a chance to “get my hands” on it again until the middle of next week, but it has been bugging me.
I have an I & T Manual, but it doesn’t show a bushing, but the “details” aren’t that great. I was wondering if anyone wanted to take the time to tell me if there is a bushing in there…or if it is just a boring in the casting.(housing) I’m going to be going into Ohio tomorrow through Amish Country and ending up at the Stark County Fair for the Tractor Pulls over the weekend, and thought if there is a replaceable bushing that I might try to stop by a dealer and pick one up………Case/IH Dealers are scarce in the area where I live, so I thought I’d try to make my sight-seeing trip worthwhile .. (heh-heh)

Thanks!
Gary

I have a C parts book, but since I've never had my govenor apart, I can't tell for sure what part you are talking about. I also don't know if they are still available. There are two identical bearings 45 753 D, and a bushing 46 939 D. Your shaft could also be worn. If you are close to your tractor, it shouldn't take but a few minutes to get these parts out. But, if you are like me, "if anything can go wrong it will". Otherwise, your best bet would be to go to a dealer and have him show you a diagram on his computer.

Gary, Ive got my govenor all apart on my super A and noticed the same thing. Im thinking of boring the housing out and install a bushing. The shaft is also worn, and I think that it is pressed into the lever and spotwelded. Im going to try and replace the shaft also. When you have it apart you may as well replace the seal or felt bushing also. Let me know how you make out.

A good many years ago I drilled out the housing and instslled a starter or generator bushing. Originally it was just the steel lever moving in the housing. Incidentally i replaced the lever also.
