I received three overseas purchase offers on my M. One even wanted me to pay shipping charges and he would pay me back when he received the tractor. (The amount was $7500.) Needless to say, I didn't jump on that one!

This sure could be a scam, here's my $.02. I have a neighbor how bought a Harley from New Zealand. I asked him why he bought an American bike from another country when they are kicking around everywhere. What he told me was that it was cheaper to buy it and ship it than to pay the local price. Plus this has different factory options that were not available in the usa. In the end is guess it comes down to he's happy. The thing about your post is your buyer isn't asking many questions, that bothers me. Why couldn't you take the check and hold the tractor for a month until it clears? If the buyer doesn't like it tell them to pound sand.

I had the same thing happen when I advertised my super C. Same scam as described by other responses to your question. I ignored the email, and he never wrote again. Dont you think if it was real, he would have tried harder to contact me a second time? Why would anybody want to buy a tractor in the USA and then pay a huge shipping fee to a forign country, when there are so many old tractors there already? To talk like Mark Russell, "if it looks like a duck, and it walks like a duck, and it quacks like a duck, it IS a duck." I also advertised a model A ford doodlebug home made tractor on another forum, and got an inquiry from supposedly england (maybe some of us are wising up to the Nigeria scam?) and he offered not only the asking price of $1500, but raised the price $800, then offered the "certified" check. (wink wink nudge nudge) I also ignored that one. If I am going to give away some of my equipment, it will be to one of my kids, and I won;t throw in several hundred extra "because the check was larger than the price". I was born in the morning, but it was not yesterday morning.

The rest of the scam is this: You go to your bank with the "certified check" which is written for a larger amount than the price. The bank actually gives you the cash. You send the buyer a check for the overpayment. A few days later your bank informs you the check was counterfeit.

Be careful, I had a response to an ad I put in the YT classified from a guy claiming to represent a client in the UK. Wanted my vital info. so he could buy my Super C sight unseen. Wouldn't give me much info on himself of his "client"

Email him back and tell him that you only want cash, you probably won't hear from him again

The english (or the lack of it) indicates a person of foreign descent. This looks like a variation of some of the overseas scams that occur frequently.

Weird why he would say his certified check can be drawn by any American bank, don't you think??

Most legitimate buyers would ask more details of what they're buying and try to haggle on the price.

Ever heard the saying "buyer beware"? In this case it should be SELLER beware.

Don't answer him.

A certified cashiers check is certainly good at any bank which handles the currency it is written for.

Certified checks can be counterfeit. Be sure and have your bank confirm its legitimacy.

IF a person has the money, they can just go to their bank and get it. Cash is best. That way you have no doubts. -Greg
