I am shearing woodruff keys off in my steering shaft. Has anyone had this problem? Is it possible to have the collar on the gear drilled and have a pin put through gear and shaft?

Yes my nephew has had the same problem with a Super A twice. The 2nd time he had the gear wielded to the shaft but I took the 1st gear to work and had a new key way put in. Does your 140 have a tapered fit pitman arm?

Most likey the worm gear on the steering shaft or the steering gear have worn to the point of replacement. Just went through this on my 340D which is similar in design. That collar is what keeps the balls in the bearing so you can't pin it solid to the shaft. This all assuming the woodruff key is the one at the first spider gear behind the bolster.
