Did any super Ms come out with the 281 engine. I know the books say 264, but I have seen more than one with the C-281 block. One of them is mine. It has the super M oil pan. I was told that some did have the 281, and the difference in the 281 in a Super M from a 450 was the head. I have had numerous people disagree. Someone help me out please?

sorry john but your engine is a replacement from a 450. when your super m was built the c-281 hadn't been 'invented' yet. it is really no big deal because the bore is the same in an original super m block.

Not to get off the subject but where is the exact location of the casting number on the head?
Thank You

Remove the valve cover and it is stamped toward the center of the head.

Thank You, I always looked on the outside I did not realize I had to pull the cover to find the number.
