My 48 M is missing the dipstick for the lift-all. Does anyone know if you can buy new ones anymore or am I stuck trying to find a used one?

If so, who sells 'em?

Also, is there supposed to be some kind of packing in the underside of the lift-all fill cap? If so, what is the packing material supposed to be and where can you get that?

You might take a magnet and poke it down into the pipe and if you're lucky the rod will be in there. When I repaired mine I found a rod in the pipe. An earlier owner had just left it in there and replaced it with another.

the stick would not be hard to make if you had the measurement. I will check mine and post it later. I think the packing was just cotton waste. just grab the cotton out of your rollaid bottle.

I measured the dipstick. It is 10 inches long. Down from the top 7 inches is a mark that says "G. C. Full" I think this is to check the belt pulley gear case. Then 5 inches down from the top it is marked " HYDR. Full". Just use a piece of 5/23 welding rod (knock off the flux) to make one. Flatten the top end and run it through a washer with 5/32 hole. the flat spot will keep it from falling through the washer and the washer will keep it from falling down the pipe. That's how the factory ones are made.
