I've done a search here in the forums for replacing the axle housing gasket and axle seals on my '40 H.

I see that I will have to:

1. take tranny cover off (already done)
2. jack up and brace tractor. (one side only, duh)
3. block tractor wheels from rolling
4. remove wheel
5. remove end cap of axle housing
6. take bolt out of bull gear
7. shim up bull gear with wood to prevent it from dropping.
8. remove axle housing bolts.
9. remove housing. 10. clean up surface, replace seals and gaskets. 11. reverse order to reassemble.

QUESTION: Did I forget anything? What would you do differnet? Do I have this in order correctly?

Thanks for lookin' all. Bill

Bill you are going at it the hard way. Don't need to remove tranny cover but you have the H is not to bad to handle I would just remove the PTO, wheel, axle end cap, push the axle out and remove the housing when you go back together lift the bull gear with a bar.

He indicates that he already has the top off of the tranny. So now he has plenty of room to get at the bull gear.

It looks good. I have a high school buddy who works on Farmalls/IH's. He said that you should not put silicon or anything else on the axle housing surfaces on my C. It might not hurt to ask an expert about the H. Sounds like you have taken into account all of the safe practices. Good luck.
