Greetings,
From s.n. on block, casting dates on underside, engine, and transmision, I am satisfied it's a 1929 vintage. However, I still have not found a # for the tractor. Received new manual, but it is for 21 thru 28 (TG 112 - TG 99925). Alternative manual is for TG 99925 and up. There is a metal rear suport for the fuel and water tanks, that has three bolt holes in it, but no plate of any kind. I also see no # on the frame left of the engine front. I can exchange the manual for the later one (TG 99925), but it would realy help if I could find the tractor SN.

Got the new plugs... you're right, they sure look strange!! But, it looks like they should run without fouling though.

Also, all the photos I've seen show this tractor in a coat of grey. Mine was once deffinitly red. Which is correct?

Outback Dave, On the right hand side (magneto side), of the engine block, there will be a raised boss, with the serial number stamped into it. It will only be the serial number, of the tractor, if it includes the "TG" prefix. Otherwise, you have only found the engine serial number. I own 6 15-30's and 22-36's, and this exists on all of my tractors, although I suppose that there could be other existing, circumstances.

Happy Tractoring, Ken

Ken, Yep, no TG prefix... I assume this stands for (T)ractor, (G)ear. I think I've got a pretty good feel for what I have now. That information and plate are gonner for sure. But I can at least narrow the number down to year 1929.
thanks!
Dave

OK dave, you have the motor number right? If that number matches the year on the castings I would guess it is right. It seems that IH did not always match the serial numers of the engine with the tag on the tractor but some will match and some will be within a hundred numbers or so. I have seen them both ways. That being said, the tag on the firewall was made of brass or aluminum and over the years the rivet holes wear out and the tag is lost forever. I don't know all the changes with serial number and year without looking them up but the later tractors had a 4 3/4 bore (the first ones were 4 1/2) The later axels were splined while the early ones had a key. lots of other changes too. I once put a 1927 motor in a later chasis with splined axels, and no, it did not fit. I had to drill extra holes to mount the belt pulley. But it turned out quite nice in the end. Good luck with yours.

Hi Cowman,
Indeed the rivets remain, and the plate is gone. Unable to get the wheel nuts off yet, but see no sign of a keyway in the threaded end of axel shaft. The engine # is 110198. Eventually I will get the SN book, but for now, I think I'll exchange the early operator manual (112-99925)for the later one (99925 & up). The dealer said they would exchange even up. It would be nice to know the tractor # range for 1929. I've got two weeks to make the trade. I was hopeing you might get back to me.
Thanks, Dave

dave, # 99926 - 128236 were built in 1929.
Do you need to get the wheel off? I have a wrench. Or you can knock them off with a hammer and chisel but, yes, it does ding up the nut some. The keyway runs to the end of the shaft. Spines stop behind the nut and cannot be seen from the outside.

Thanks Will,
I see a rusty shadow where a 3"x4" plate once was. The previous owner has placed an after market oil filter there, and the plate is not to be found.

Anyone have any thoughts as to how to assertain the tractor SN otherwise?

Dave, I have a 22-36 and had the same problem. I was told 22-36's have water pumps and 15-30 do not. Also on mine under the tractor the date is cast in to the frame midway front and rear in the center underneath, hope this helps, Bob

Hello Bob, Right, there is month / day / year casting on the underside of the tractor frame, as well as the engine block. Also found one on the transmission cover. Yes, the 22-36 has a water pump and a "V" belt w/ adjustable belt tensioner on the top pully that carries the fan blade. I believe the 15-30 has a flat belt and no pump.

Thanks, Dave
