The Eastwood Company sells a cloth harness tape that I used on my H. After I wraped it, I painted it and it looks great. Price was around $10, and there is enough to do two harnesses I would guess.

Scott, I did what Farmer Bob recommended and it turned out great on my '46 H. In fact, he's the one who turned me on to checking NAPA out to get the stuff to build my own loom. Until you get the loom painted, be careful about getting any gas on it as it tends to make the asphalt coating pretty messy. HTH. Larry

Hey guys, when doing your own loom, do you use the same gauge wire for the whole loom? If so, what gauge? I think I bought 18, but can't remember.
If not all the same, how do you know what gauge to use? I bought the strand, not the solid.

Diana, Bob M has some great wiring diagrams that he has posted. The diagrams are for most of the letter series Farmalls and they include the recommended wire size. These diagrams were a Godsend when I was re-wiring my H. Punch below to take a look at them. HTH Larry

I use a variety from 10 ga. for primary circuits, 12 ga. for lighting, and 14 ga. for minor stuff. If you can look at the old wiring you will be able to tell what size to use to rewire each circuit. Yes, stranded wire is what you should use.

I make my own harnesses and use an asphault coated wire loom from NAPA in various sizes. Once painted, its hard to tell from original. I'm sure there are other sources out there. This is just handy for me to get hold of and fairly inexpensive.

Is there a name and/or part number for this asphalt loom covering. Our NAPA store parts-people are not too helpful and they are easily confused if a person asks a vague question! That is why I will shop the other 3 parts houses before going there {BTW, I am not trying to start some sorta parts store war here... I just dislike the local personnel at THIS store!}

Thanks in advance!

I'll have to look it up when I go back to the shop.

Just checked my boxes and the 1/4" is 737101, 3/8" is 737103, and 1/2" is 737104. These are NAPA Part numbers.

Have you checked the Online Store here at YTmag? They have harnesses for several tractors. Another source is Carter and Gruenewald. I don't know if either offers the cloth type covering though.
You can access the online store at the top of this page under Marketplace. Here's a link for C & G.
