I am currently looking at several tractors and trying to decide which to buy. one is a International B-144 Diesel Tractor serial # 14967 can anyone tell me anything about this tractor.--year: HP; ect---

I have a gas B-414, and its been a pretty good tractor. Mine is rated at about 35h.p and its got live powe and power steering. Parts are availabe for at the local IH dealer. Mine is a 1964 modle and not very many of the gas ones we're made. If you dont mind me asking, how much are they asking for it? Im trying to sell mine and not sure if I'm out in left field on it or not. About the only thing I've heard about the diesels are they are kinda tempermentle in the cold, but other than that there a pretty good tractor.

I think the 414 is about the same as my b275. Mine is for sale, I just did an over haul with new pistons and sleeves, including painting and rebuild the injector pump. I have an inquirery on this web sight for a price discution. below your posting.

We bought a B414D new in winter of 1961. Put over 10,000 hrs on it and it was running great when we upgrade it to 454D in 1972. Had the following problems with it:
1) When it was about 3 months old the key came out of the camshaft timing gear and valves hit pistons. IH replaced camshaft, timming gear, valves, pistons and rods all under warranty.
2) When it was about 2 years old it started to smoke. IH said early ones had soft rod and main bearing inserts. IH gave us all the parts and we change the rod and main bearing inserts.
3)Lucas electric system was always troublesome but swapped out generator/voltage regulator with a Delco alternator.

The only other thing is the B154D engine is a bit difficult to start at -25F but will start with block heater.

But in general it was a reliable tractor.
