I had the steering (bolster shaft) crack and I lost my steering. When I disassembled it, the whole thing fell out and now I do not know where all the parts go. Besides the actual shaft, there is a bearing, some sort of tapered steel disk that goes above or below the bearing, and there is a thing about 2 inches diameter that looks like a tin can with the ends removed. That thing just fell out and I have no clue where it goes.

Can anyone please email me a scan of the parts blowup for this.

ALSO

I bought a used shaft from a guy who sells whole trators and used parts. The shaft is good, but the bearings are real bad. My old bearings also look sloppy. I'd like to replace the bearing with a NEW one. Does anyone know where I can buy this part? (quickly).

Thanks

George

George I just finished rebuilding the bolster with
all new bearings, bushings, and seals from my
local IH dealer. 90W gear oil is recommended
by the kind folks in this forum as lube in the upper bolster.

Here's a link to an image of the drawing you need.
It'll probably be hard to see, but if you right click on the image and print it'll look right.

Stupid gif files. It's there, but who knows what'll happen when you try to look at it. I would try putting it right here, but I'm afraid itll come up as a giant and take forever to download. I gotta go. I'll check back later. If it doesn't work for you, post again with your email ( I think if you put the eddress in the body of the post instead of the E-Mail slot, maybe leave out the @ it won't draw so much spam.)Like:

Your local Case/IH dealer can supply the needed bearing. While looking up the part number, have the parts man show you the picture of the assembly and you can see how it goes together.

Don't quote me on this, but NAPA has access to many bearings - take your old ones in, and see if they can fix you up. If counter person is good, they can take measurements and compare with their books. If not, they can probably give you some leads on where you can go from there. (Been there- done that!) You can also try Detroit Bearing (Grand Rapids, MI) That's where I ended up on a set of bearings a while ago!
