I posted below about this IH 584 with a loader (asking what it might be worth). I didn't get any responses, probably because this tractor is not as common as the older ones. The only thing I know is that its a diesel. From the picture it looks like it's in average/good shape. I can only assume it runs good. I will not know more until the auction Saturday morning.

So my question now is...anyone have experience with these models? I just want to know how reliable the diesels are and if they are in general a good tractor? Any info will help. Thanks!

Thanks everyone for the comments. If I can get a good deal I might just go for it, as long as there are no major problems. I will look especially hard at the front end for signs of wear from the loader. The only other info I have found is that it has 1750 hours (listed in the auction ad in the paper).

I purchased the same tractor with the same loader this past sppring and I love. It has power to spare for my 9' haybine and the loader is heavy duty. The loader does lighten the back end and even with wheel weights it can get dicey going down steep grades. There is alot of info posted in the archives about this tractor that will give you a good feel for it. The parking brake is the worst engineered piece of garbage found but otherwise it gets good reports. It starts easily, even in winter and 1700 hours is nothing on that German diesel. Good Luck

I have many hours on an 884 working in orchards and have never had a problem with it. Always was a dependable tractor and was capable of doing what ever was asked.

the tractor in the picture is like my 784/ 2250 loader. it has a row crop front axle which is lighter duty than the utility (not the right name but i'm drawing a blank) axle on models with 30" rear tires. front axle on mine was welded before i bought it. steering can get quite loose if it has had a lot of loader time. foot and parking brakes are internal which is time consuming/expensive to repair. the engines run cheap on fuel, transmissions are ok- i'm not as happy with gear selection for loading as i was with 656 gear drive, but the lo-rev lever is handy, being a straight line shift. the bucket in the picture is a smaller one, so should have been easier on everything than a 8' bucket. check for cracks on welds between side rails and cross member on loader frame. from the picture, it looks to be in good shape. my 784 has a year round cab and 540/1000 pto which is different than most. average condition, fair tires. almost 7000 hours. it cost $5700 for tractor and $1800 for loader, no one bid when put back together.

Neighbor has one... darn nice tractor to run, and get around in tight areas. The engine blew several years ago $$$$$$$$$$$$$.
I don't know the details, but the block was not useable, but he found a used engine at a wrecking yard several states away, also $$$$$$$$$$$$!.

This is not a fair judgement of the tractor, just a comment that it is not a real common engine, if it were to give you trouble.

Hi, my brother has IH 495D with the 2250 quick attach loader and IH 684D. The IH 584D is the size in between these two tractors. They have the German Diesel engines that run forever with litte maintance. The 2250 quick attach loader is a heavy loader and will cause problems on the front axles. Although 2250 fits on 2WD models is more suited for 4WD models with the heavier front axles. Check front axle for cracks where the power steering cylinder connects to axle and also around where the bolts go thru the box frame to hold the cast part that connects to the spindles.
IE the bolts that would be removed to adjust the width of the front axle. The 2250 loader protrudes over the front of the tractor quite a bit so if you are using it to move heavy objects, either put some weights on the back of the tractor or some 3 pt implement like a cultivator or plow.

Also if you are allowed to test drive, check the parking brake for holding. If it won't hold that means someone drove the tractor with the parking brake on and the brake lining is all chewed up floating aroung in the transmission plus hydraulic system. Not good, will eventually clog hydraulics.

Bottom line, good tractor and loader.
