19:44 Wed 9/24/03 just got home from work, and just got my power back!! should not have got on this thing on Friday and bragged how lucky we were in the storm. We were lucky though, just inconvienenced since Sat. morning when the power went out, do to a tree limb taking down the lines, 1 mile down the road.We ran on a borowed generator for four days.Question is, what kind of gen. can I get for my 1940 H to run my house, and is it feasible.

Lots of PTO generators are available. Check farm magazines.

Don't know what you mean by feasible: The H will put out enough power to run a 20 kw generator or larger (think 1 hp/kw) but large generators are so expensive it is only economically feasible if you plan on being out of power for a long time, or you place a very high value on having access to electricity.

We live in the country and suffer regular power losses. We light the candles, go to bed early, and enjoy the quiet. The generator only comes out to keep the freezer cold.

Andy that's exactly what I used it for, to keep my hog and my beef from going bad,and to keep me from smelling like I was going bad (hooked it up to my well pump)What I mean is ,is it worth going out and bying a gen.to run off the pto or just go with a potable . Just looking for oppinions.

I don't live in Hurricane country, and the most we have ever been without power is about 12 hours, guess I'm lucky. Also, not qualified to answer your question. But, I think you're better off with a self-contained generator. If you leave your tractor or self-contained generator unattended for a length of time, such as overnight, and something breaks, you lose your generator and not your tractor. I say this yet I live in an area where people run natural gas irrigation engines all summer without shutting them off, except for routine maintenance.

Hi, it takes 40 HP to run a 25KW PTO generator without overloading the tractor. A 25KW will run barn cleaner, milk cooler, milker pump and hot water tank, providing you don't start all units at once. Most electric motor require up to 2.5 times starting current vs running current.
For example a fridge may take 12 amps to start but only 5 amps when running. Stoves and electric water heaters are pure resistive loads and there is no starting current surge.
