I bought a farmall A at auction last week It seamed to run well at the sale. I find it will only run well with the choke all the way on.when choke is off it will strugle and the governor will start to hunt. I have no idea whats wrong,the manafold apears to be in bad shape. HELP! thanks in advance

you need to clean the carb. it is plugged someplace.

It sounds like the issue with your tractor is lack of fuel, and or to much air,Your carberator makes the right air fuel mixture, so if you are drawing air in through a rusted through intake manifold you will have to compensate for this by adding fuel thus pulling the choke will admit more fuel.To check your manifold get some starting fluid and spray it around the manifold itself, if it has leaks the engine speed will increase, if the engine does not speed up , that means that you have the proper air mixture, but not enough fuel, If thats the case then you need to take the carb apart and throughly clean it, especially the needles as this is what provides the fuel, more than likely your carberator is gummed up, and a good disassebly and cleaning will correct your problem.

WD-40 will work for the intake maniford leak test and be safer too. Less singed eyebrows :)
