Looking for a small tractor to restore and use at plow days and a little work around our place, guy down the road has a Farmall 340 WF which i really like, he wont part with it so am going to look in the spring for one. My question is what is the difference between the International 340 and The Farmall 340? Also what are the good and bad points of these tractors? I think the Internationals are the utility style but not sure, which would work best for what i want to do. Thank You

We've had a 340 since 1970.It has been a very good tractor for us.It came from the dealer with a brand new New Idea 506 loader on it.It was over hauled in 1971 and has had the TA and clutch replaced one time. Not bad considering it was our main tractor for years. It has been mainly used as the hi-lift tractor on the farm for the past 10 years.I bought a 484 with a 2250 mount-o-matic loader this spring to replace it.When it gets repainted here shortly it will be for sale. I don't know what they're selling for here in western Pa. but this size tractor with a hi-lift on is some what of a hot item with the snow season approaching. These tractors are getting old but they're good iron and you can go to your local IH dealer and get any part you need for it.That means a lot.Good luck on your hunt. AJ

Don't know what part of the country you are in but I have just listed my Farmall 340 on a consignment sale on the 18th in Bonner Springs, Ks.

340's were made from 1959 to 1963, just a little over 7000 were made. They have a C135 engine. You are right about the International 340 being the utility model. They were also available as a crawler and with a diesel engine. The Row Crop model came standard with a NF a WFE was an option. Live PTO was also an option as was the 2 point hitch with a 3 point adapter. The number of hydraulic blocks were also an option. Power Steering was also an option.

This was a great tractor and the last model and most improved of what was the orginal Farmall C.
