A friend of mine has a Super C w/FH that he uses with a 7 foot finish mower. Tractor is a showpiece and starts on the first crank. HOWEVER, the other day he was mowing, made a sharp left hand turn and the tractor just stopped: engine runing, PTO turning but transmission not moving the axels. Won't budge in any gear!! Will shift into all gears OK. What's the problem and the probable fix (I think I remember something about this about 6 months ago but can't find it). Thanks, BobG whose 230 is now doing his dirtywork.

I had a similar thing happen a few years ago with my "C". It turned out the be a cast aluminum sling oiler gear on the PTO shaft that had broken and a piece had lodged in the transmission gears. We just took out the pieces and the rest of the gear and it was fine. My mechanic buddy said that gear was only there to lube if the tractor was standing (not moving) for a long time like a belt driven thresher power unit or something and was not needed if you were doing regular tractor stuff that involved ground travel and the transmission turning.

Anyway, it was really easy to remove the top of the transmission and get at it. We also cleaned out the tranny case with hot kerosene and when we were done the original paint was still on the inside of the transmission and the gears were just beautiful pieces of machining.

Hope your problem is as easy.

Thanks for the replies. We'll check them out. Does anyone know if the 2 top belt pulley bolts need to come out to take off the top of the trans?? thanks. BobG in VA

The first thing to check are the axle clamps. Next start the tractor and put it in gear and push on each brake. If and when the tractor moves it will tell you what side to work on. The SC's like to break the center out of bullgears and also like break off the axle in the bullgear. If you have any questions email me.
