Went to the Farm Fest today in Springfield, Mo. Walked my rear off didn't do my feet any good either. Lots of stuff there don't farm any more, but if I did and could afford all I need, would't need it. Did buy a 400 D and yes I will take it out of the box because I like to look at it. Saw a lot of people I had not seen since last year. Have not missed one in the 24 years of rhe show, but 24 years and 60 lbs. it does not take as long to see it.

Jim: At our ages, I find these shows should have a lot more places for a guy to take a sit down break for a few min. Most shows don't seem to have many shade areas either. Last year I went to about 10 shows, got fried in sun at most and my legs aren't up to it anymore. This year I went to one show.

Jim: I'm about 8 months younger than you, just finished close to 120 hours trucking in past 2 weeks. I'm suposed to be part time. I love those part time trucking jobs. I don't seem to mind the walking at the farm shows, it's when your stopped talking to friends you haven't seen in awhile. If I do much of that my old legs turn to rubber.

Your mentioning your son giving out before you does bring back a memory. I grew a few rutabagas few years back, something for my little Farmalls to do was big item here. My son and I were harvesting into big vegetable pallet bins by hand. At end of day we both had the same number of bins. When I got in bed that night, I told my wife I was just about done in trying to keep up with Sandy. She laughed and said," When you were at warehouse, he told me you were a hard old man to follow, you would sit down for a smoke and 10 min later you caught right up." That may have happened the first year but once he got the knack of trimming rutabagas, I couldn't touch him.

Jim: At 61 I do notice it, however not too much the worse for wear. Besides the authorities only let the young fellows drive that long anyway. At 6 am Mon. I am ready to go again, Mack is sitting in my yard, bulldog is missing some of his more masculine parts, but he's ready to go again.

These 64 yr. old legs don't seem to have the same amount of energy as my mind. I've decided that one thing I'm going to do this winter is fix up the old Lawn tractor, and load it on the trailer with the "H" so that when I want to move about at the shows, I dont have to walk my legs to pieces. Don't anyone even mention an Amigo, I'm not ready for one of those yet.

What's wrong with an Amigo? I'd be taking mine to shows to ride on if I didn't have the tricycle Cub and a couple other small tractors to use. It's a nice little original tractor with many features of larger tractors and mostly cast iron.

The Firelands Pioneer Power show in Sandusky next Saturday will be my 10th show this year.

I'm disabled and will soon be 69.

Paul: I don't mind the walking, it's just the standing when you meet someone you know. Even if they had everyone bring a 5 gal. oil pail and place them under an Oak tree. That is what I use in my shop, don't want visitors to get too comfortable. My dad and I always had a series of these pails, had a conference on them every Sunday morning. I had just built a new dairy barn in 1971, plumbed it for a bathroom. My brother had picked up a used toilet bowl and dropped it off amoung the oil pails. One Sun. morning dad and I were in conference he chose the toilet bowl as his seat that morning. Nice sunny morning lot of people out, driving by. My wife finally came over, wondering why everyone was tooting their horn. We hadn't noticed but decided it must be dad sitting on toilet bowl. No one had ever tooted horn on other Sunday mornings.

Hugh, Great story....I can only imagine the thoughts of the passers by. We used to solve a lot of the world's problems sitting on a milk can or so in the milk house. It got to be that one could almost count on at least one person or so would show up in a pickup just as we would finish chores just so they could get in on one of those sessions.
