I just finished restoring a Farmall B and for some reason I am getting oil leaking out of several of the pan bolts. It only leaks when I run the engine, which I suppose is just from the oil being slung around in the block. I know some of the taped holes for the pan bolts may go through, but I haven't had them leak on other tractors. I used a silicone sealant on the pan gasket so there are no leaks through the gasket. I am thinking of pulling out the bolts that leak and coat them with non hardening Permatex. Have others had this problem? Roger

Rodger,
Silicone is for models breasts, it just makes them look better in thier opinions(some of them leak too). Use the permatex avialtion sealer on assembly for a leak free job, also check that the pan bolts are not distorted from over torquing of bolts in the past.

Also, while you have the pan off, make sure the bolt holes in the pan are nice and flat. They get bent out of shape from over-tightening.

You're on to the problem - the tapped through bolts. I tried some Orange colored Permatex, mostly because it is similar to the paint color. It worked for awhile, but is now leaking, so skip that product.

Throw the silicone away, and buy a can of Aviation Permatex at your Napa store and coat those bolt on assembly... This stuff is the cats meow.

I'm having the same problem with my Super C. Have you actually been successful in sealing leaks through the bolts by applying Aviation Permatex?
How much did you put on the bolts?
Thanks

The local Case/IH dealer advised that I put no sealant whatsoever on my Super C cork gasket that I purchase through him. If you do, he said, it will leak.
