Is the timing pointer on the flyweel cover that points to the timing mark on the flywheel supposed to be flat and stick down to bottom of flywheel mine seems to have been folded and is very short and which side of flywheel is the timing mark supposed to be on. Thanks

The timing pointer is a raised line (or a groove), haven't looked lately, on the cast piece directly behind the oil pan, It is of a length and width that it is very easy to see. The mark on the flywheel itself is very thin, and may or may not include numbers; it is very hard to see. Clean off the flywheel, use a flashlight or a drop light, turn the flywheel with a screwdriver in the gear, and I promise you will find it. The mark is on the edge of the flywheel in front of the teeth, as you look at the flywheel from the rear.

Jim, I think your B engine is the same as my C ---someone will correct me if I'm wrong---
On my C, I couldn't find a pointer of any kind, so I took # 1 plug out and watched the piston come up to the top of the cylinder, then I looked at the rotor button to make sure it was pointing at the # 1 wire which is suppose to be at about the 2 o'clock position as you look at the top of the distributor.
Then I watched the points to see when they opened and backed it up a little to the point where they were just getting ready to open and then tightened the distributor down enough that it wouldn't move on its own.
After I replaced the cap and etc, it fired right up.
After it was running, I moved the distributor each way until the engine ran best.
I figure I might have to "tweak" it a little after I get all the tractor back together to actually use it.

Hope this will help some !
Gary
