All while I have had this tractor if I pressed the cluch peddle while driving forward up an incline, the tractor would start to roll back. Now it doesnt. If I press the cluch peddel and take it out of gear, it will roll back. This really doesnt pose a problem, but I back up against a stump and went to go forward and it would not come out of gear. I had to shut the tractor off and then it would get out of gear. What could be the cause of this?

The Tractor Vet is right, you need to ajust the dump valve. Ajust clutch pedal free travel first, then the dump valve, then the transmission brake. Get a service manual, you can buy a I&T manual at your local farm store for about $20. The purpose of the dump valve is to release the hydraulic pressure that locks up the TA clutch. After you turned off the engine, hydraulic pressure dropped, and you were able to shift again. You could have pulled the TA lever towards you instead of turning off the engine.

The dump valve is out of adjustment along with the clutch and trans brake . First adjust the free travel of the clutch then the trans brake then the dump valve , Have someone hold the clutch pedal down to where it is ( one Inch off the stop from the floor plate) back off the dump valeve adjustment bolt till the oil lite comes on then start to turn it in till the lite goes out then add one turn and lock it down with the lock nut. It will shift a lot better then.

Hi Don,

Sounds like your clutch is not being completely disengaged. A simple clutch adjustment should take care of this.

Also, I would do it soon because while you are setting there with the clutch pushed in, and the tractor will not move as you describe, that clutch is slipping (burning).

Its the same effect as if you were "riding" the clutch; and you know how long that would last.

Just a thought,

Allan
