Did everything else at the auction go high? I have been at farm auctions where one thing goes way high, and everyone starts paying too much for stuff. Apparently overspending is contagious or something! Last year I was at an auction where everything brought about twice what it was worth. I saw a Deere 6620 combine that was ready for the scrap heap bring 26K. The fools just kept bidding. I tried to buy the new 915 flex head that was on the heap of junk, when they sold the heads seperately but the guy who had already paid three times what the combine was worth was so determined to get both heads I think he would have paid anything for them. After it sold, he came up to me and said. "Thanks a lot you F-ing SOB I didn't want to pay that much for it." I replied, "Well nobody was holding a gun on you, you could have stopped bidding at any time" He mumbled something about my ancestry and walked off. I could have easily decked him but dad was with me so I refained from giving him the a$$kicking he deserved. The guy who sold the equipment was bankrupt and his creditors were forcing him to sell out. He made so much $$$ on the sale of his old worn out equipment that he paid off all of his creditors and took the remaining cash and went and bought some newer, larger equipment, and kept right on farming. I guess he got the last laugh!
