Overheating on a Super C

I ran my tractor for 8 to ten hours on different days mowing with a Cylone 60 shredder. During the last two hours, I noticed that the temp had gone from the usual 185 to 250. I shut it down as soon as possible and discovered about six to eight quarts of water boiled off. I have found no leaks. Local tractor mechanics suggest a stuck thermostat. Are there other possible causes for the sudden overheating and\or water loss? There is no water in the oil and the oil is at normal level.

have the same problem with mine,,,,, try running not quite wide open , maybe 3/4 or so,,, that seems to cure it, good luck

Check for trash On the front of the radiator. Also, check to see if the fan belt is tight enough to turn the fan properly.

My Super C has a shutter to help control coolant temp.
Check to see if it is closed or not. If my memory (poor, at best) serves me, when the lever is forward it is closed and would contribute to overheating. The lever is on the left side of the steering post, just above your clutch foot pedal.
You need to check the gauges often on these old girls!
