I am looking at a 766 gas with a factory cab. Appears to be in good condition, just a glance from the road though. Are these good tractors? What HP? Did they have a 3 or 4 speed transmission? If it is in decent mechanical condition with good tires what is a ballpark price for it? Any other comments are apreciated, thanks. Brandon

if being a gas would be a problem depends what you are using it for. should start easier in the winter. if you can buy it cheap enough compared to a diesel, you can afford to put some gas through it. i'd think the cab would be more of a deterrent to buying than the gas. you can't see as well out of them as an aftermarket cab of the same era. i have a 966 that has been a good tractor, though not nimble. i would think the 766 would handle more like my 826, which is quite maneuverable. as to price, a 766 diesel would bring $5-7000 from a dealer, usually less in a private sale. the gas should be $1000-1500 less. having said that, watch it sell for more.

They were ok a littel light on pony power for the weight of the tractor , a freind of mine has one that he bought junk and i went from the ft to back and had ever bolt nut and screw out of it to make a good one but when we were plowen together my 706 gaser would walk away from him but on the dyno he had me by 9 hp but i weighed 1500 less then he did.

I had one a few years back. I think around 80 hp. Gas Guzzling is an understatement. 4 speed trans with hi/lo. Good tractor but loved gas..

About how many gallons per hour will this tractor use doing heavy tillage?? (Worst case scenario) How about cutting and baling hay? Hopefully gas consumption would be less.

A neighbor had one a few years back. Pulling a four bottom plow used about 8 gallons a hour. Might use a little less on hay. I think you'll be better off with a diesel unless you can get it super cheap. Good luck with it if you decide to buy.
