I have a 460 LP tricycle that I bought a couple years ago for scrap price. It was a relatives & was running & used regularly when It was parked in the pasture & allowed to sit out in the weather for 10 years. It has 5200 hours on it. I was finally able to break the engine loose yesterday & the cylinders look pretty good. I plan on getting it running & trying to decide if it would be worth keeping around. I dont really have any money in it right now. I would like to put a wide front on it & maybe get a loader for it. WHen I was younger I remember this as a good running/ dependable tractor.
Will a 460 With a loader be stout enough to move a few round bales with? Is this tractor worth fooling with? 5200 hrs?
Any advice on a 460 LP would be appreciated. Thanks

I have a IH460 Utility LP that I have had for several years. It is a clean running good tractor. I move average size (1200-1500#) round bales on a rear hay fork, with no trouble, except it being light in the front end. Goodluck doorguy

I know very little about LP, But what I do know from what I have heard the eng. should be in good shape with 5200 hrs. The 460 I do know as I have owned and used a 460D for close to 30 years. It is a good tractor I don't know how many hrs it has on as the tach was broke when I bought it. I probably have 1000 to 1500 on a major eng. OH. LP is a very clean burning fuel.

I forgot this, as for as moving round bales there are round bales and there are round bales. I used to move 1500 lb. bales with a 330U really was to lite for them but had no problems 460 will do fine but you may want to put bigger front tires on it most of them have 6.50 X 16's. 9.50 X 15 is a good size.

Other than the LP part? If you havent used one you can't know. I have a 300 and a SMTA on LP and except for having to run to the shop to fuel them I like them. They have great economy if you buy your fuel in the summer for under $1.00 a gallon. for light work run them on vapor. The overhauls are a joy, everything in the engine looks clean and i have never seen a set of LP cylinders and pistons that were scored, this of course is IF you ever have to overhaul one!

Hope you and everybody else runs away from LP, that means more cheap LP horsepower left out there for me and the rest of the informed tractor guys.

A dealer told you that? He apparently hasn't been around too long. Go ahead, take his advice if you want but he is full of mud.

Heck, I was looking for a head gasket & stuff today & the case/international dealership nearest me didnt even want to talk to me about it. They said they dont handle LP parts! The headgasket shows to be the same in the parts book anyway. I wont bother to call em for anything else LP or otherwise.

At auction this summer in Central Ca., a 460U LP sold for $450.
Right rear tire was shredded from the sun, but everything looked complete and straght. Engine free, but not running. I kick myself for not upping the bid to $475, but who knows where it would end?
