Hey guys. I picked up a wide front for my 400 this last weekend. What technique do you use to install this with out breaking your back on it?

I recently added a wide front to my 400. It was purchased at an auction and appears to be home-made, but it looks good. For installation, I disassembled it as far as I could go for cleaning and painting. The mounting plate for it bolts to the 4 holes below the radiator. I had to buy a 3/4-inch tap to clean these hole out before bolting the plate on. We then used a floor jack to raise the axle into place and then began piecing it back together (tie rods, knuckels, hubs, etc.) It's too heavy and cumbersome to handle as a complete unit.

Eww, I just got a idea!!!
Maybe I could use this. I could put chains around the Axle and pull it up with the come alongs.
I suppose I could just use the loader on my H too I guess.

If you don't have a floor jack, you can lift the axle tube by itself into place with someone else on the other end.

Instead of buying a tap, cut some slashes in a bolt (lengthwise) and use that for a tap.
You will have to clean it more, but for limited use...
good luck

I've done that trick myself, not as good as a tap, but it will work, and is a whole bunch cheaper, you can even use a bolt that's not much good.
