I recently bought a '52 H with the help of this site. It has a single one way hydralic hose connected to the outlet on the right side of the tractor now and that is good enough for me. My question, is it possible for me to operate my grandfather's transport disk with a two hose cylinder on it. Would I have to run a return line? Would that go into the filler cap? Can I just hook up the "up" hose from the disk to my tractor? Or is it not possible for my one way hydralics to operate it at all? Sorry for my ignorance when it comes to hydralics. Thanks for your help.

Greg, here's another thought, if you had your own cylinder, set up for your tractor, you could easily just swap cylinders on just about any implement you could borrow.

you can plug one hose in and leave the other hose unhooked this will work, as long as the hose unhooked has the oil out of it. in other words you would have the cylinder all the way retracted before hooking your hose up.

Greg
Just take the coupler off the end of the "lower" hose and put a sock over it to keep dirt out. After you finish replace the coupler. Takes 2 minutes and won't damage anything.

You can remove the second hose from the cylinder, and replace it with what is called a breather, should be able to get one at most any farm machinery dealer or farm supply store.
Doing this will let you raise and lower the disc, but you will not be able to lift the disc transport wheels off the ground.

So there is no way to use it as is, since he uses the disc the way it is I wouldn't want to mess with his cylinder set up.

You can switch your setup to a two way hydraulics by adding 3 position hydrualic control valve. Just plumb the inlet(pressure)of the valve to the output port of the liftall pump. Then run the return line into the drain plug of the lift-all pump(located underneath the tractor). Tricky part is mounting your control valve in a handy spot. Obviously to operate the system, you will have leave the lift-all pump on all the time. Or just turn it on when you need to lower or lift the disk.
