Any of you Farmall Mechs tell me what keeps my 350 from coming apart at the front of the transmission ---I removed all the bolts and she opened up abt 1/8" Then stopped. Do I have to go into the back to the tranny to disconnect the main shaft or what. I ordered a manual but all I got was the engine section.I have to split it to replace the driven PTO gear and front shaft. Any help will be appreciated John

could be the pilot bearing stuck- had a heckova time with the 756 because of it, about 1/8 to 1/4 inch apart. were lifting the front section with the backhoe to pull it out and block it up, pulled a little with it and used pry bars to get it apart.

whatever works is right- having backhoes and skidsteers around makes splitting tractors a lot easier. another trick we have is when my uncle bought his 300 and had to split it, he welded feet onto the end of some old spreader web crossbars and cut holes in them to bolt onto the sides of the bellhousing to use as legs. Works on the little ones but anything biger than the 400 gets blocking stacked under it

Drop the cover from the rear belley of the T/A housing. There is 1 bolt in there you have to remove.

Try it again! Yes I have the one bolt inside the case out. The PTO splined shaft I think is free but something else has to be holding the main shaft of the tranny from coming out of the T/A case. Which makes me think I have to disconnect something in the tranny or in the clutch-T/A unit. ???? Tnx for the comments!

You may have play with the gear position on the TA/mainshaft gear. There is a bearing cage that fits on the input shaft of the tranny that goes into the backside of the TA- sometimes it gets hung up. But things should come apart smoothly.

You may have one or 2 bolts left on the top side that screw into the block from the starter area. One is in plain view, the other you will remove the starter and just above the ring gear for the bolt...
