The breather pipe on the side of the engine on my H was plugged so I removed it and cleaned out the plug but the breather element was also a solid mess of oil grease & dust. I took out the breather element (part #52111D) which looks like steel wool. Tried the IH dealer but it is not available What should I use?

Another trick would be to submerge the entire unit into a container of diesel fuel or other solvent, and let it soak for a few days, then set it somewhere and let it drip until it's dry.

I've seen these available after market but don't remember where. Here is what I did. I bought a package of copper Chore Boy scrubbing pads at the local supermarket and packed it in there. Copper won't rust it'll still allow engine to breath and won't let any thing that'll cause damage into motor. If I did the right thing is yet to be seen but working well right now. HTH, Mike

Did the same thing on my breather and has worked great! Was the closest material I found that matched what was originally in breather pipe.
