Super A Lift Setup

We recently acquired our first Super A. Drug it out of the briar patch, wheels stuck, engine stuck, etc, but mostly all there, down to the oil gauge, mag, carb, etc. For now, we've just poured diesel into the cylinders through the plug holes and intake. Yesterday I was taking a look at it and noticed the lift bar is connected to the fenders. I did a double-take and looked again--the rod comes from the hydraulic lift unit to the rock shaft which pivots on two mounts, one on each fender. These mounts also have grease fittings on them. The fenders seem to be a casting--not regular stamped sheet metal. This is our first A model. It was advertised as a Cub when we came across it and purchased thinking it was a Cub. The loading process occurred at night and in the rain. Anyway, thanks to some of you fellows, I learned that it was actually a Super A. (This was posted close to a year ago.) Are all A models set up this way--with "load-bearing" fenders??

Kevin, That is the correct Super A setup with the rear rockshaft between the rear fenders. The Super A fenders are a heavier gage steel than a regular A to be able to withstand the weight of the various implements being lifted. Others on this site can tell you how much weight you can lift with this setup, Im thinking about 500 lbs.

Scotty,

Thanks for the info. I thought I was seeing things. We're about to get a 140 also. Are they set up the same way or improved?

I'm re doing a Super A right now. (1950) I bought a burnt 140 witha fast hitch. I removed the fast hitch and am about to install it on the Super A. The Inner rock shaft has a lobe on it for the rod that runs to the rear rock shaft that lifts the fast hitch. The fast hitch pivots on the fenders the same as the Super a Rear lift shaft. Should all bolt up the same, although have't acutally had it on there yet, We'll see....

Kevin, Pretty much the same setup, although they made some improvements by the time they came out with the 140. Example the rod that runs ftom the hydraulic touch control to the raer rockshaft was a larger diameter. There are others on this site that grew up on those tractors that can tell you a lot more. Its just a hobby for me.
