I guess my subject states the question. What type of oil goes in the oil bath container at the bottom of the air cleaner? thanks

I use whatever I put in my engine...as long as it isn't 20-50. Generally SAE 30.

Hi, should be non-detergent oil. Detergent oil will foam. All these tractors were made before detergent oil was available, so just used the same oil in air cleaner as crankcase.

I have detergent in all of mine, I do tend to use SAE 30 rather than multigrade, not sure it matters, except perhaps in very cold weather. The dirt is compressed in the bottom of the cup by centrifugal force, foaming shouldn't matter in this case. I believe detergent foams only when hot, it doesn't get that hot in the air cleaner, so as long as it's oil---.
