I have a 1954 Farmall Super A and don't know how to tell what engine size it has, there are no markings on it. I was told it could have either a C113 or C123 engine?? According to the serial number it was one of the last ones made.

Hi, I noticed your post from back in 2003. I have just purchased a 1954 Super A, but I believe it to be a Super A1. My Engine serial is FCM 208407, unfortuntely my serial tag is missing. Do you still have your SA1 and might your recall your engine ID and chassis ID. thank you Paul

KFG, In 1954 IH started producing the Super A-1 starting with the serial number 3560001 through 357958. These Super A tractors had the C123 engine. Now the way to tell if your tractor is a Super A 1 is the Chassis or engine prefix. The Super A prefix is FAA & FAAM respectively. The Super A-1 pefix is FAA-1 & FCM respectively. Hope this clears up your question.

The Super A1 engine had the C123, but you can tell from engine part number behind oil filter. The 113 would have # 251069R1, and the C123 would have a block # 354898R1 or R2. That doesn't mean if it was a C113 at birth, that it hadn't been switched over to the 3 1/8 bore. The best way to find out is drop the pan, and measure the bore.

If it's before 356001, it should be a C113, after would be a C123. But I think the blocks are the same after somewhere around 310,300? with the C113's having extra thick sleeves. Either way you should be able to go out to a 3 1/4" overbore piston and sleeve set. Post the casting number that's up behind the oil filter.
