THE ORIGINAL PROBLEM WAS THAT IT WOULD NOT DISENGAGE (stop turning) WITH OR WITHOUT A LOAD AFTER TAKING IT OFF & TRYING TO ADJUST, IT ENGAGES & DISEGAGES BUT NOW IT SLIPS WHILE UNDER LOAD. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP

I just finished overhauling my 460's pto-should be same. It is a clutch type that you have to remove to adjust. There are only a couple of turns of the spider that are in the range for it to go overcenter. With the clutchpack facing up and the clutch disengaged, turn the spider until you can barely see any slack in the discs (none if any are warped). Keep tightening it and check to see until it goes overcenter with a snap. Once it does, keep tightening until it won't go overcenter, then back off a 1/3 to 1/2 turn and put it back together. If the adjustment doesn't work, check to see if the woodruff keys are shot or the pin through the shift yoke is sheared off. The shop manual will tell you how to adjust the clutch brake linkage. Email me if you need more info.

IT SNAPS IN & OUT FINE WHEN INSTALLED IN TRACTOR,BUT NOW IT SLIPS BECAUSE I DIDN'T ADJUST IT RIGHT. STUMPPED THANKS FOR YOUR HELP

If it goes overcenter when installed on the tractor, you are close, and it should have gone overcenter on the bench. I'm guessing you are not getting enough leverage on it when you have it off the tractor. What direction it faces is not important. If you can't get it to go overcenter off the tractor, the next best thing is to keep tightening it until it doesn't slip when under load when installed on the tractor. Having taken mine off a couple of times, I know this is a pain. Try half a turn and with luck, you should be back in business.
